Melanie Downie Zupan

Portland-based soprano Melanie Downie Zupan is best known for her clear, soaring soprano sound and engaging stage presence. She studies with Nancy Zylstra in Seattle and is active around the country as a soloist, recitalist and professional ensemble singer.

Mel is a soloist and cantor with Cantores in Ecclesia and performs annually in the William Byrd Festival under the musical direction of Richard Marlow. She is also an original member of the Portland Vocal Consort and has performed with Cappella Romana, the Roxy Consort, the Columbia Symphony and the Portland Baroque Orchestra. Mel has recorded with Oregon Catholic Press and has appeared as a soloist with the Bach Cantata Choir, the Columbia Chorale of Oregon and the First Unitarian Church. In 2007, Mel performed Bach's St. Matthew Passion at Carnegie Hall under the baton of Helmuth Rilling.

Having spent several years living and working in southern France, Ms. Downie is fluent in French and is a well-known chanteuse in the local Francophile community.

Chris Fotinakis, violin
Chris Fotinakis hails from Carson City, Nevada and arrived in Portland nearly fourteen years ago for musical studies at the University of Portland.  He received his B.A. in Music in 2000, pursuing study in both violin and voice - with a side of viola. He studied violin under Holly Stern, member of the Portland Baroque Orchestra.
    Chris has played with the Vancouver Symphony, the Oregon East Symphony, the Oregon Chamber Players, Oregon Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, the Starlight Symphony, and has appeared as a vocalist with the Portland Baroque Orchestra, Portland Vocal Consort, Choral Arts Ensemble, and Cantores in Ecclesia.  He holds a position as a soloist at All Saints Episcopal Church where he leads the tenor section and assists in directing the choir.  Chris also fiddles with the indie-country band The Beautiful Train Wrecks and has recorded CDs with the Oregon Catholic Press and the University of Portland.
